North Community High School,  1500 James Avenue North
I taught literature and writing at North Community High School from 1974 to 2001, and a part of me is still floating around the halls here.  I believe working in one's neighborhood has its own set of rewards. The kids I taught could see me in my yard and on the street, and know I live the same rhythm of life they do.  Children I knew as babies, as playmates of my own kids, grew up to become teachers, accountants and public defenders.  I've been able to observe the full cycle develop.  This is my school.  Since retiring I am looking for ways to stay connected.  This summer, I'm working on an art commission for the Sumner Community Library renovation, building it at North, working with Seitu Jones (another artist) and 10 students [these students are behind George in this photo].
